Saying goodbye to 2010

When I looked at the calendar on my desk, I could hardly believe how swiftly this year has passed. There were so many days; 365 days to be precise. Yet still I didn't accomplish nearly all the projects I'd assigned for myself. In all my hurrying, when I finally came to terms with the strides I have made; as I knew it would happen, my four legged best friend sailed away to her heaven. The pain in my heart due to this loss nearly crushed me. Even so, as I look back on this year, I've come to know some wonderful people. It is these fabulous relationships that bring a smile to my face. Most of these people I came to know thanks to the internet. It also was the internet that opened my eyes to the gaining force of independent professionals. People whose dreams will not be dashed due to the establishment. I'm so happy to know that there are countless people out there like me. For this reason, as I look to the future, I will always do my best to encourage my indie friends in whatever way that I can. In closing for the year 2010, I would like to say, hold on to your dream and never give up until you've finally crossed over your finish line.

A retired Teacher writes a Series

While searching the internet for a good Indie story, I stumbled on a writer from Michigan by the name of Bob Morrow. After reading his bio then an excerpt from his book, I found myself admiring his creative spirit. Mr. Morrow is a retired teacher who is using his talent to write books. His series "The Big Sky" has three books and he's currently working on book four. Check out his work and judge for yourself, the stories appear to have a heartwarming quality. Link

It all starts with attitude

Having an idea or a dream that hasn't been shared isn't easy. Keeping hopes or wants locked away in a chest; never realized due to one reason or another, this kind of stagnancy can zap creative juices into nothingness. The moment a flow from a vision takes root; it is in that instant the mental tempo needs to change. A jolt of energy should shift that idea into motion. Life must be infused into the ambition. Before actually testing out the idea of a plan, this dream can begin by mushrooming within the mind. If you can envision a picture of your idea, the first steps have been taken. From that point, the forecast can only get better. Expect greatness and huge things will happen. Keep your attitude high and never allow it to fall short by sagging under pressure.

Far From Shore: This indie writers journey

I can vividly remember the second I couldn't turn around, resuming my life as it once was. That moment when I wrote my first story and received a positive review; I was to far out to return to things as they once were. In the oceans of the writer, I'd swam past the buoy. There were no lifeguards warning me of the limits. With every stroke of my pen, every key that was pressed; after each period and ending story, I became enmeshed in the world of writing. I'm to far from shore, so there's no other destiny for my life now. I'm in the shipping lanes, writing with the same vigor as the big name writers.

INDIE Writers

Supporting Indie writers is one of my passions. As a Indie writer myself, I'm amazed at the courage and fortitude practiced by these pioneers. One of my goals in this coming year is to highlight these writers by spotlighting a new book. I will leave the critique to you as the reader. However, on occassion, I may give my views on a writer or a book.
I read one of Megan Hart's books a few years ago. At first, I was pulled in by her expressive dialogue. She phrases conversations in a believable way. If her pattern holds true, I look forward to reading "Nothing in Common".

A great Scifi Series

A few years ago, I stumbled upon a book written by J.R. Ward. It had actually been a gift. I'd told a friend that I liked the move "Interview with a Vampire". She told me about this book that she wanted me to read. At the time, I didn't know that it was part of a series. Which made reading the sixth book in the series first, more than a little confusing.
When I asked her. Why did she give me the book out of order? She laughed, then she said "Knowing you as I do. I knew after you read it, you would be hooked."
Well, she was right. After I finally struggled through the sixth book. I found the first through the fifth books online. I even went back to re-read the sixth book again. This writers style of writing was unlike anything I'd ever read before. After reading her first book. It took a while to believe that a woman could write with such a convincing gruff tone. She more than pulls it off. Since reading her first book. I've read every book in the series. "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" If you like the paranormal. You've got to take the time to read this one.

What's new...may not be the same ole stuff

I just recently read a book by one of my favorite writers. At first I was expecting the same of her wit that I'd come to love and respect. How shocked I was when I made it through the first chapter. Immediately I realized that the publishers must have changed her editor. Needless to say something was missing. I tried to continue...but I couldn't. So... I'm throwing this out into the void. Beware. When you switch a formula...you might not get the same recipe.

Paranormal Saga's

What makes a good romance using paranormal as the backdrop? Personally I think the use of contemporary as well as fantasy can make an interesting romance. By using the tried and true. Vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters and an assortment of make believe beings created during the time of Frankenstein and the Swamp Thing. Romance can be found in any creepy formate. The key lies within the writer and their imagination. While it is true...paranormal isn't for every romance novice. But those who enjoy this genre understand like me. There is something to be said for fantasy. Paranormal romance is Fiction at its best.

Why paranormal romance... The unpredictability of the fantasy coupled with that of the romance always leads to a complicated mixture. This tug of war is one of the primary reasons I enjoy this genre.

Vampire Academy

I'm not big on series specifically targeted to youth. However, if the story is well written; I'm not opposed to reading something new. After reading the first three books of the Vampire academy series, I was hooked. Unfortunately, the books that followed didn't live up to my expectations. I'm still willing to give this writer the opportunity by not bailing on the series altogether. If you haven't read this series, I do recommend that you do. As I said. I can't vouch for the last two books in the series, but the first three are well written and worth following.

Surprise, surprise. This series may be picked up by a publishing house. Lets keep our fingers crossed because this will be a wonderful surge for this series.
